Why Using a Billboard to Advertise Can Benefit Your Business

Billboards can be an extremely effective method to advertise your business, yourself, or any message that you want to get out to the general public. The fact that the use of billboard advertising is exploding on the American landscape is a testament to both its cost effectiveness and the results it achieves.

There are several ways to use billboards to advertise. You can put up your own billboard on your own property or you can rent a location. Though the cost of your billboard rental will vary with the actual location and exposure you are looking for, it is still going to cost less and reach more people than other advertising mediums. In today's world, television and radio commercials can be edited out so that the intended recipient can avoid seeing or hearing them altogether. Print media, such as newspapers, magazines, mailouts, etc. tend to be looked at once and then tossed. A billboard, on the other hand, is a constant and difficult to overlook form of advertising. For example, people may drive by the same billboard twice a day every day on their way to and from work. If they are caught in traffic inside the billboard's sight line, even better!

In today's technology oriented world, billboard advertising can be designed on computers, printed on poster board, vinyl paper, or other materials and glued to whatever billboard size is being used. The old way consisted of painting over old advertising and painting on the new advertising. Obviously, the new methods that have been in use for at least 5 -10 years, make billboard advertising extremely easy and cost efficient. If you want to change your specific message, which you should consider doing every 1-3 months, then it becomes even more financially attractive. Reinforcing the same advertising message continuously in new and creative ways can be extremely effective in increasing your business and getting the most bang for your buck.

Advertising via billboards located on major freeways are particularly useful for gaining and reinforcing name recognition as well as offering directions, such as which exit to take to get to your particular business. If your business is located far from an exit, you could have intermittent billboards advising customers of how far they have to go to reach you.

Other forms of outdoor billboard type advertising can be found on buildings and mobile venues such as the side of buses and vans. This type of smaller billboard advertising is good for realtors, service repair companies and other smaller companies. The larger companies who are trying to target high population densities as opposed to certain target markets are usually going to go with the typical large standing billboards that can be easily seen by passing motorists. This method of advertising can be creative as well as innovative. In these instances think restaurants, casinos, or housing subdivisions. However, the list is endless. From car dealerships to political candidates, this is a quick and efficient way to reach many people continuously.

While other forms of advertising are seen, heard, or read and then usually forgotten, billboard advertising is working for you around the clock. It's a company or individual's way to bombard the public 24/7 with the message or image you want them to receive, which translates to advertising dollars well spent.
