Choosing Stock Photo for Advertising Purpose
Any type of business needs a marketing strategy, and that applies to
choosing stock photo for advertising purpose which must be done with
care. You do not want to pick any photo to represent your business
because the wrong photo can end up costing you money and time. There
are a few things you must take into consideration when selecting a
photo or photos for you advertising needs. What purpose do you want your stock photo to serve? Do you have a
specific goal, like generating leads or sales, or is the stock photo
going to be used to create a buzz about your business, product or
service. Knowing exactly what your needs are will help you decide how
much you want to invest, and what you will be expecting in return. For
example, say you spend $500 on stock photo for advertising with the
hopes of bringing in $5,000 in sales; you need a compelling photo that
will draw customers in and make them want to know more about what you
have to offer. You want to choose stock photo that will get a reaction. So, if your selling cruises you do not want to use a photo of a ship
out in the middle of the ocean, it might look nice, but that is about
it. A stock photo that shows people on deck lounging, laughing and
having a good time, would be much more interesting and tempting. Another important decision is choosing stock photo for advertising that
is right for the use you have in mind. Will it be used on the Internet
as part of a sales pitch, or maybe you need it for a blog. Or do you
intend on using it in print advertising such as on fliers, in a
newspaper or magazine, knowing how you will use your stock photo will
help you determine the size you will need, also you need to know
whether or not it will be used once or for an indefinite time. Stock photos for advertising purpose can be easily located on the
Internet using search engines like Google images, by searching stock
agencies you will narrow things down, and in the long run save yourself
a lot of time and energy. Using a reputable stock agency will assure
you of a few things that are extremely important, including
availability, size, and quality. More importantly the rights that you are legally able to secure. There
are two main types of rights that most stock agencies use which are
Royalty Free rights and Rights Managed. You can read the terms
associated with the stock photo you choose, all agencies have these in
writing. Basically, Royalty Free rights may mean you pay by size, and
can use the stock photo for whatever you like for an unspecified length
of time, or indefinitely. Of course any use that is not allowed, e.g.,
defamatory use would be outlined in the terms and conditions. Managed
Rights are usually tracked so you will know if a competitor is using
the exact same image. Those are basics to give you an idea of how license rights work,
however, you want to be sure you understand the rights you secure when
choosing stock photo for advertising purpose before you agree to a
license and its rights, and make your purchase.
