Does Newspaper Advertising Work?

If you are planning to sell something, advertise your business, or trying to find something specific to buy you may consider using newspaper advertising to get your word out. You may be wondering if newspaper advertising is the best way to advertise or if it even works at all. Consider the facts about newspaper advertising highlighted here and read the guidelines to successful advertising. Millions of people use the newspaper on a daily basis for many different reasons with successful advertising being one of them. You can get in on the action if you think it is right for you and your business.

Here are some newspaper distribution facts to think about. The newspaper is one of the most widely distributed publications available to the public. It is a fact that over 57% of adults in the U.S. read the newspaper daily. That means that they will spend at least 45 minutes on average reading the paper during the week and an hour on Sundays. It is also a fact that newspapers account for the largest revenue of all advertising in the country. Each week almost 58 million daily published newspapers are circulated across the country and almost 50 million weekly published newspapers are circulated.

So where and when should you place your ad for the best results? It really depends on what you are looking to gain from your advertisement. If you are advertising your business think about when your potential customers would look for your type of business. If you own a roofing business advertise during storm season and mention storm or hail damage. If you own a bakery advertise during holidays and mention any holiday specials you may run. If you're simply going to advertise a yard sale make sure to check the weather and mention any high demand items you may be selling (like baby clothes).

If you are looking to buy something specific then you want to bring attention to your ad. People have a tendency to overlook certain things if they don't stand out to them. This is great advice for selling, as well. Try to get the largest ad you can (without spending unnecessary money) and use a great design that will catch the eye of your potential audience. Keep in mind that you need to get their attention quickly because the paper will not be saved long. Most people read it and recycle (or trash) it.

There is no reason why you can't be successful using the newspaper to advertise what you need. You just have to do it the right way or you'll end up spending too much money and getting no attention. Take the time to plan for the best time to run the ad, don't spend too much but don't be cheap, and make sure to get the attention of readers. Highlight the best things about your business (or whatever you are selling) in your ad to bring in more interested readers. If you are looking for something to buy you need to be very specific about what you want and what you want to pay so you don't waste your time or anyone else's. If you keep these guidelines in mind and follow them there is no doubt you can be successful in using the newspaper to advertise.
