How to Calculate Website Value (Website Appraisal)
Website appraisal is something that every website owner should do regularly. Owning a website is no different in basic elements as having a store in your downtown area. Unfortunately for a lot of ‘newbies’ who are throwing up free websites and believing they’re on their way to financial freedom, this is not done. Most don’t know that they should, and most don’t know how. Learning how to calculate website value is vital to the success of anyone pursuing success on the internet.
Not all websites, believe it or not, are about money. Some are information themed. In these cases, how to calculate website value would take on a different definition from those designed to sell. While the differences are many, there are some basics principles that rule throughout the website appraisal process.
One of the first website appraisal questions is content quality. Does the content pull the amount of traffic you desire, or the amount to produce the end result of your goals? Are there good links, good graphics, videos, pictures, a good feel and flow to your site. Is easy is navigation?
Look at your content and see if your formatting is good. If it is jerky and has some ‘hit and miss’ type of flow in it, people will not stay there. It has to be interesting, and you need it to generate a lot of traffic. One of the best ways to calculate website value, is the same as in any business. Cash generated against cash output. The average monthly income should exceed your layout in advertising, domain hosting, and all other expenses for keeping your site going.
Remember, when learning how to calculate website value, all these points we are making go hand in hand. If your content is up to par as far as navigation and flow, then the next question is how much traffic does it pull in. No commerce geared environment can operate without a good steady supply of customers. And you need to evaluate the kind of customers as well.
Another consideration for website appraisal is ‘have you managed to build trust’? A websites’ success is directly related to its involvement with people. If yours doesn’t instill trust through interaction resulting in repeat customers, then its’ value will naturally be less.
Give yourself a website appraisal as if you wanted to sell it, and of course you wanted top dollar. Would your site bring it? Will it stand as a good investment for interested buyers? Be honest with yourself and with the figures and you should be able to arrive at an honest and decent website appraisal.
Here is a small checklist:
(1). Content Quality and Flow (2). Graphics, Design, and Overall Feel (3). Money generation against Maintenance and Advertising (4). Traffic - Amount of, Quality of, and Type of (5). Accessibility and popularity (Is it well-known and easy to find)
These are very basic considerations for how to calculate website value. Each website will contain its’ own unique challenges for making an accurate website appraisal. Check Your Website Value >
